I need prescription lenses, how will I get my prescription for Vue?

If you pre-order using BackerKit and choose a prescription lens, we will follow up over email with a prescription survey. We send these out in batches on every Friday.

Can I order Progressive Lenses at this time?

Unfortunately, no. The process is logistically difficult and expensive.

However, we are still allowing orders before July and old Kickstarter pledges the opportunity to upgrade to progressive.

Are the blue light filter lenses colored or clear crystalline lenses?

Our blue light filtering lenses will be clear. Many BLF lenses on the market have a yellow tint, so backers are typically asking about that. But ours will not have this tint and will thus be clear.

As I use prescription glasses and my prescription changes over time, is it possible to get replacement lenses in the future or would I have to buy a whole new pair of glasses?

We don’t offer replacement lenses at this time. For now, a backer would have to find a shop that can replace lenses for them in order to update their prescription. If we decide to offer this program in the future, we’ll certainly announce it on our website and across our social channels.

Are individual frames and lenses purchasable separately or will they be in the future?

Backers can either order Vue with or without lenses, but we don’t offer just lenses on their own. So backers can either have us fulfill their lenses, or take empty frames to a local shop to have them fitted.

We don’t have any plans to offer lenses only at the moment.

How will this project be shipping to International residents?

(August 2017):

We haven’t finalized our courier yet, we are looking at a few options. Most likely we will be choosing a service that uses the most affordable service depending on the region (which is what we did for our previous product).

That being said, the backer will still be responsible for VAT/customs/duties and we can’t ship directly from the EU at this time. We’ll be shipping directly from China.

When is Vue shipping?

We display the most current shipping date on the main pre-order page. The date is subject to change, and by pre-ordering our product you are acknowledging this risk. No. By pre-ordering, you are helping us to crowdfund this project and acknowledge that there are risks and potential delays associated with bringing this product to life. We won’t actually charge your credit card until a later date. Prior to charging, you are free to cancel. Once we charge your credit card, we do not offer refunds as funds will be used directly for completing the project.

Can the glasses be adjusted?

No, these glasses are non-adjustable. Heating or bending the glasses would damage and potentially break the electronics.

Which type of lenses should I get?

If you need correction for just one field of vision (near or distance), single vision is the way to go. If you don’t need vision correction, you can get the plano (non-corrective) lens. If you’re looking for sunglasses, you can choose between tinted lenses for reducing brightness, or polarized lenses for protection from harsh glares. If you’re looking for transition lenses, you can choose the photochromic adaptive lens option, which are clear indoors and darken under sunlight. We recommend you talk to your optometrist to find the type most suited to you. The lens manufacturer we’re working with provides a range of options as listed above, and we’ll collect your prescription information once the campaign is over. Can I replace the lenses with lenses sourced from another provider?

Yes. Since Vue frames function just like normal glasses, you should be able to take your glasses to another provider to get lenses made for them, just as you would with another pair of glasses. Last updated: Tue, Oct 25 2016 12:38 pm EDT

(SPH) +6/-18 (CYL) +6/-6 Last updated: Tue, Nov 29 2016 7:45 pm EST

Do you offer photochromic transitioning lenses?

Yes. These are available under the “sunglasses” section on BackerKit.

Will these replace my headphones?

Bone conduction technology allows you to hear audio while still being able to hear surroundings, which is useful when you still want to hear people talking to you, or hear traffic while driving, cycling or walking. It’s not meant to be an immersive audio experience in the same way that most headphones are. It’s similar to listening to audio from a speaker - you’ll hear the audio, as well as what’s going on around you. In a quiet room the sound quality is great, but in a loud environment what you hear may be drowned out by surrounding noise. For example, calls or music in an office work well, whereas calls or music in a bar or noisy restaurant will not work. Last updated: Tue, Nov 29 2016 7:45 pm EST

What is the refractory index of the lenses you offer?

Single-vision: 1.61. Polarized: 1.59. Last updated: Tue, Nov 29 2016 7:45 pm EST

What is the lens material?

Polycarbonate. Last updated: Tue, Nov 29 2016 7:45 pm EST

Can the photochromic adaptive lenses also be prescription?

Yes. All lenses can be ordered with prescription. Last updated: Tue, Nov 29 2016 7:45 pm EST

Are the tinted lenses the same as sunglasses lenses?

Yes! We offer both tinted and polarized lenses for those looking to use Vue as sunglasses. Last updated: Tue, Nov 29 2016 7:45 pm EST

Can you offer different sizes or nosepads for adjustability?

No. Currently we are only offering two sizes—one for trendy and one for classic. Although we wish we could accommodate as many people as possible, it’s quite expensive to produce so many different sizes or nosepads at this time. If we have enough funding or bandwidth in the future, we will consider offering more. Last updated: Tue, Nov 29 2016 7:45 pm EST

What is the water resistance rating?

IP54 Last updated: Tue, Nov 29 2016 7:45 pm EST

Can my insurance cover this?

You will have to check with your insurance on this. We are considered as an “Out of Network” provider and insurance policies differ on this issue. If needed, once we ship we are able to provide an itemized breakdown for frames and lens cost if your insurance requires it to consider for coverage. Last updated: Tue, Nov 29 2016 7:45 pm EST

Can anyone else hear me?

No. Bone conduction transmits sounds directly from your skull to your inner ear, by vibrating the bone above your ear. No one else will be able to hear it, unless you turned the volume extremely high in a quiet room, in which case there would be a bit of sound leakage just like regular earphones. Only you can hear it at normal volumes. Last updated: Tue, Nov 29 2016 7:45 pm EST

I have different prescriptions for each eye. Which one should I get?

You would choose a prescription lens; you can have different prescription levels for each eye. Check with your optometrist if you require progressive lenses. Last updated: Tue, Nov 29 2016 7:45 pm EST

Do the lenses also correct for astigmatism?

Yes. The prescription lenses included in Vue also correct for astigmatism. Last updated: Tue, Nov 29 2016 7:45 pm EST

How heavy are these glasses?

The glasses weigh only 28 grams, which is in the same range as regular glasses. Note that this may change in production. Last updated: Sat, Sep 9 2017 5:54 pm EST

Is there a warranty?

We are offering a 30 day warranty for malfunctioning products. Depending on negotiations with our factory, we may be able to lengthen this. We do not have a comprehensive policy in place for poor fit. Last updated: Tue, Nov 29 2016 7:45 pm EST

How can I try these on?

We haven’t found a free, open-source virtual method for demonstrating fit. We did find some frames on Ray-Ban’s website that has dimensions within 1mm of ours as well as similar styles. To try these on, open the link using a mobile device and click the “Try Them On”. You can then take a quick video of yourself and the website will map the frames to your face. BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
